I have done a lot of research on bikes and in bike books. I first started with the Silhouette to get interesting shapes. I then did a more detail study on the mechanical structure of the motor bike. Here is some image that I have worked on over the past week.

I just looked at this book called ‘Liftoff’. Its all about concept art of fantastical vehicles and flying machines. It’s a stunning book from Designstudiospress. Check out the other books at this link http://www.designstudiopress.com/

I found this image on istockphoto.com. I like the top the guys wearing. This could be a good design to base the main character on.

Here are some early character silhouettes. I have focused on the costume here. I kept all designs pretty close to the bodies. Trying various pieces that might be appropriate for desert wear. Another criterion was no flowing cloth. The reason for this is the difficulties of controlling animated cloth and also the incredibly long render time.

Visual Research:
I found this on the web(link below). I really like this image because of the differing colours on the ground and the sky is just an incredible blue.

Concept Synopsis and Treatment:

A young girl flies a kite and meets an unexpected friend.

Genre: Drama

Target audience: Family+all ages

Approach: CGI animation

Style: Pixar: Short Films

Length: 2 – 3 mins.

Plot:

A small girl flies a kite and it gets caught in a tree on the edge of the forest. She can’t reach it no matter how hard she tries. The girl suddenly sees something. It’s a small creature looking from the shadows of trees. It helps out by making the tree bend its branch down to release the kite. Then the girl offers the furry creature a turn of the kite. The creature accepts and both play with the kite until the sun goes down. END

Methodology: characters are to be modeled in 3D. The environment will also be 3D orientated with possible 2D backgrounds. The foreground will consist of grass and leaves on the trees and some shrubs. I’m really going for the Pixar feel

http://www.pixar.com/shorts/index.html. I know it’s a tall ask but I believe its achievable.

I want to keep the story simple and uncomplicated. There will be little or no dialogue. This is to maximize the acting quality to convey story. This is a heartwarming story of friendship. This story has great potential for depth of emotion and drama

Technical issues:

Air effects(on grass + leaves)

Fur effects

Character rigs.

Lighting.

Rendering time.

Sound effects: wind, leaves rustling, foot steps, wildlife sounds(eg crickets, moths fluttering. Ambience/background sound.

Music: simple evocative melody. Piano and Flute.
